Algae growth seems to be overwhelming the middle section of my pipe organ coral. Would my best bet be to frag off the healthy section of the coral?

I'm thinking that it may be too fragile to try and brush the algae off.

    Sounds like a good plan

have you tried turkey baster blasting the algae off? I'd do that, then work on getting rid of the algae issue (reduce phosphates, nitrates, increase magnesium, do water changes, etc.) before fragging unless you just want to frag it.

I just recovered from a water quality issue that was partly caused by me not being home for two weeks, and a faulty API calcium test that was reading 420 when I really had 300 ppm. I think the low CA kept the coral retracted and allowed algae to grow.

The other problem with my pipe organ is that my orange fromia loves to "hug" it, and this keeps it retracted, and makes it easier for the algae to grow.

My yellow tang helped out a little bit today by picking at the algae. LOL However, it's too thick to baste.

My params are all back to normal now.... I guess I'll keep an eye out and frag it as a last resort.
