i have a dead pipe organ that has been well dead for sometime was sold to me as live rock. i was wondering if that is a good thing to have considering all the little holes and the way its shaped for macro's and other living things. as my feather dusters and fans spit out lil white dots all over my tank.
the white spots come every 5-6 days float all over my tank and on the glass. and they tend to jump... i dont think they are copepods (sp) for i hear them only come out at nite. but every 3 days my glass has hundreds of white specs. i want to call them little tiny snowflakes as that what they look like in a magnafying glass. although the specs sit there but sometimes they jump around.....

They look like snowflakes when viewing through a magnifying glass? Doesn't sound like pods to me. You should see a round body with a tail.

EDIT: By dead pipe organ I assume you mean it is just the skeleton? If so that will make awesome live rock. Real live rock in the reef is actually dead corals as well. Corals grow on top and block the light, then the ones below die and turn into rocks. Thats why they are called "stony" corals. I have several coral skeletons in my tank, they have all covered up with coraline algae. My clown fish made a cave under one of the skeletons where they sleep at night.
