I'm considering getting trying to get the two in the future, but had a few questions.

    1) It is best to add them in at the same time or one of them first?

    2) I have a 2'' sand bed with egg crate on the bottom, is that too shallow?

    3) I have a firefish and a cleaner shrimp already, will either of these create any aggression issues?

    1) Yes it is best to add them at the same time. This way they don't have to go looking for eachother :)
    2) Your sand bed with egg crate is fine.
    3) No problems at all.

Have fun and enjoy them. I love mine! Any idea what your going to get?

Oh no clue yet. It was just an idea, wanted to see if it was even feasible before I got hyped up about it.

We have the same exact tank, so I was thinking the species that stays the smallest. Any suggestions?

Same goes for the goby. I was thinking a yellow watchman or a hi fin.

Remember that a pistol will grab the corals and clams on the sand bed if he can and drag them to the burrow.

You will also have periods of decreased water clarity secondary to the burrowing.

I lost my pistol that I had for 2 years after treating the tank with interceptor. I do miss him as does my goby, but I do not miss the pistol dragging my corals around nor the sand clouds.

I never understood how they could burrow with egg crate across the entire bottom of the tank. Can anyone enlighten me?

I've heard that they drag frags. Not good, but amusing, lol.

What is the size where things start to be too large for them to move?

That frag in your avatar would not stand a chance. Pistols are determined if nothing else. I have had them try to move a 3 inch clam, while not successful it gets annoying. It does not matter how far a frag is from the burrow anything it can carry is fair game.

Geeze, sadly that duncan is gone now =[

What about frags on the rocks? Do they ever go in the rock work to pull things for their burrow?

    Sorry about the duncan. :-/

I kept things about an inch or two and the rocks and never had an issue.

It's actually kind of funny when they grab hermit crabs and try to use them to shore up the sides of the burrow. The hermit gets a few inches away and bam it gets dragged back until something else catches the pistols attention.

Haha, I have a bunch of nassarius snails and a huge amount of dwarf ceriths that will probably become decorations. Sadly I'm pretty sure adding the pair will make me overstocked, so I must wait until I turn my 10 gallon planted tank into a reef tank, if the wife will ever let me.

Any thank you about the duncan. Something hit my tank in December and killed all of my LPS except for my trachy. Thinking it was a bacteria bloom.
