I got some led strips from someone and I'm wondering if I can mount them in a t5 fixture. Will the heat from the bulbs melt\ruin the led strips? Ill take a pic tonight for reference. Its a 4 bulb fixture and the strips would sit in between the second and 3rd bulb.

Not even sure. He used them for supplement light and shimmer effect on a 10g with 2 t5s. Mine is a 10g with 4 t5s so this would be strictly for color and shimmer effect. Ill take a pic later tonight and post.

If there strong enough to make a simmer I don't think you should do it. Both lights need heat to be able to cool.

i was thinking of doing this in my aquatic life fixture with some ecoexotic led uv strips for a different moonlight experience. is this a bad idea?

I think I would try to do it just about any other way first. I mean t5s get pretty hot and most lights don't have the best fans, and leds get hot and they don't last as long (wayyy shortens their life) if they run hot. I would try to put my leds out side the lights, or if I had to put them inside for the right angle I would try to get some extra fans in there.

That's what I was kinda thinkin. It would get to hot. Ill see if I can mount them on the outside of the fixture.

If the LEDs are less than a watt each or do not mount on a heatsink, then they are not going to produce the heat to be concern about. Basic LEDs can take more abuse than you think. If it's not hot enough to melt the bulb itself you're fine.

Ya these are not the 3w leds people use to light there whole tank. I'm just concerned with the leds sitting to close to the t5s and melting the board that they are soldered to. I know t5s can get very hott. The scar on my hand can prove that :)
