Thermocol is just polystyrene, isn't it?

If so, it should be safe. At least, I've never heard of anyone having issues with it.

If it's not polystyrene, then I couldn't tell you.

Dunno about styrofoam, but Ive been thinking about using a piece of plexiglas as a "cover" for the bottom of the tank.

I siliconed egg crate to the bottom of my tank. It also helps with keeping the sand in place.

It will probably try to float. I wouldn't use it. If it traps air who knows what will happen in time. They don't have eggcrate in India? What do they do to difuse light on flourescent fixtures?
You can't get a piece of acrylic??

you would be fine using foam or the other product. Both of these have FDA ratings so in turn that should be suitable for use in a saltwater tank.

Doesn't Styrofoam release toxic by products over time?
