I am very excited to learn that in less than a day the RV Heraclitus will be arriving in Jack London Square, Oakland, Califorina - where I work!!

The RV Heraclitus was built in Oakland in 1975. It is now coming back for the first time since it was built.

CLICK HERE >>>Since 1995 it has been studying the world's coral reefs! <<<

This ship is directly part of the effort to save our natural reefs.  [smiley=cowboy.gif]

I immediately plan on going there tomorrow and taking a lot of pictures. I think I will go early to try and see it sail in.

Check out what they have been up to:

    Looking at their site,

    http://www.pcrf.org

I see that we can become a 'Reef Protector' by donating a $250 bucks!  ;D

We haven't done this at 3reef but we couldn't have a better reason to start. Let's donate to pcrf!!!

I'll start the drive with at least $50 of my own.  :)

Anyone else want to join in let's post here!

Laine and I checked out the homecoming of the RV Heraclitus yesterday and met some of the crew! What a ship! And the crew was very nice. [smiley=thumbs_up.gif]

We hope to go back this week and get on board and hopefully have an indepth interview with the crew about what they have been up to. [smiley=smart.gif]

CHECK OUT THESE PICS!! 8)

This ship has been continously mapping our reefs for over 9 years. Their data should be instrumental in government policies.

If you would like to help 3reef help the PCRF with a small donation, let us know here.

I know times are tight, but this is such a good cause!

Ok, several hundred people have passed through since I posted this but I can't get anyone to respond? [smiley=stars.gif]

I am not demanding donations here :) , but don't you think what they are doing is cool?

Nobody wants to talk about it?

    >>>This is a unique opportunity, I am planning on going back tomorrow and getting on the ship for an interview.<<<

DOESN'T ANYBODY HAVE SOME QUESTIONS YOU WANT ME TO ASK THEM??

    Way to go Karla. [smiley=beer.gif]

Let's see if we can get $200 bucks of pledges here so 3reef can become a PCRF 'Reef Protector,'

then I'll setup a paypal account and we can all chip in.

Sorry for my lack of response (like Karla, I haven't been on the net much recently), but you got to relize Matt, most internet reefers don't have much input on this type of subject.  In my several years of working with industry reform, I've gotten next to nothing as far as responses to my threads/posts.  The good they'll do is being seen by others, like you mentioned above.  It gives something for people to think about and exsposure for the groups or efforts.

Matt, I'm cash poor currently, but I've got some reef related equipment (ie. old skimmers) that I can donate to 3reef.com to sell or auction.  I'll send them to you via Anne, if thats cool?

From the link you provided, it looks like they got stuck in Seattle prior to coming down here.  Actually, it says they've never even came here at all and really are stuck in Seattle.

Gresham I am starting to realize I might be barking up the wrong tree.  ::)

Well ~hopefully~ people will become aware of their choices.

(Map - Their webmaster must be slacking or on the boat - It is currently in Saulsalito I believe and then heading to L.A. before going back to the reefs..)

As for the old hardware for auction, THAT WOULD BE WAAAAYYY COOL.  [smiley=2thumbsup.gif] 8)

We haven't had an auction in a long time.. thanks dude!

    Matt,
I've been waiting for the Pay Pal info. I think having 3reef as a PCRF 'Reef Protector,' would be a wonderful idea.
