So, I have been slowly getting my tank set up. have it 3/4 filled with salt water, was going to put my sand in tonight and the dry rock this weekend, then hopefully some live rock. I come home today and find a notice in my door that says my power will be shut off next Thursday for 7 hours for some linework repairs. My question is this. Should I wait to put the sand and rock in until after the outage or does it not matter? The rock used to be in someone elses tank a long time ago and I was hoping it may kick start my cycle until I get a cup of sand from a friend. If it does, will not having power for 7 hous hurt anything? Sorry for the long post.

    agreed you will be fine.

when you start to add fish get yourself one of those battery operated airstone pumps. they come with every thing you need. and could save your fish next time there is an outage.
i had an outage for 17 hours with an over stocked tank. and the fish were all fine. those little air stones can be a life saver.

Was your salinity though the roof, who was topping off? what was the temp in the tank with no power? and most of all why would you do this in the first place?!?! This sounds a little exaggerated....

i was thinking all the same thing.... salinity and heat were the first to come to mind. then no protein skimmer or anything.. impossible..
