Plans for a Wet/Dry?

Hey all, please excuse me if this has been posted already but I'm new to this site and I haven't fully covered all the threads. But I need to know how to set up a Wet/Dry filter as far a the plumbing is concerned. I'm really at a lost as to how the water is taken from the tank, to the filter and back up. The tank that I'm getting is already drilled so I just need to know how to run the pipes. BTW, is a wet/dry filter also called a sump?: Pardon my stupidity but I really don't know lol :-[

 

Does the tank come with the plumbing for the over flow? What brand of tank are you buying? Water typically flows from the tank to the sump or wet/dry by gravity and then flows back up to the tank with the use of a water pump. The size of the pump depends upon the max flow of your overflow and wet/dry. Check out this web site for the plumbing of a Megaflow overflow:

Hi Raven... Thanks for the link. It gave me a better understanding of the whole filtering system. The tank that i'm using isn't really a brand name tank, it's a customed made one which I'm purchacing from the owner of the company where I work. It doesn't have an overflow box but it's drilled . I may be thinking about blocking the holes at the bottom and just adding an overflow box onto it... But all of that will come in time...

go with the predrilled holes you will like that better. plus you can move the tank closer to the wall. also you can build up the live rock to hide things instead of having the box hanging in the tank. i have an overflow box and though its easier to clean i wish mine was drilled so everything was hidden under the tank.
