Hey, also watch the fish and inverts you add because some will pick at clams. I learned that the hard way ::)

    Hey guys,

Just a quick question,..After my cycle I plan on using my auto top off system with kalk, I won't have anything in the tank except live rock and live sand. Is that a waste of kalk if I decide to do that? I just want to keep my Phosphates from causing any problems, I also want to start keeping my calcium and alk at stables levels from the start, so when I get an invert my parameters as far as calcium and alk are in stable condition. Should I just wait until I am ready to get an invert to manage my calcium and alk? Also when adding kalk to a sump using auto top off system, should the kalk be added where the return pump is located or the area where the skimmer is located, my thoughts are that I should add the kalk where the return pump from the sump is located? any thoughts?

yes and no, find out the tanks Ca,dKH consumption rates if the CaOH2 is enough to manage those than no, if its to much than yes. CaOH2 is a weaker version of a Ca reactor.
no, corals will use Ca,dKH,Mg more than inverts.
    high flow area

with any supps, figure out your Ca, dKH, Mg consumption rates. best to give the tank 24hrs between testing to find out how much is being used.

a question regarding my cycling, I been reading in 3reef alot about cycling, so it got me thinking about how I am going to do it. Can someone correct me if my understanding of cycling is incorrect. I plan on curing 60lbs if Live rock, which should take 3-4 weeks hopefully. Anyway after the rock is cured I plan on filling up my tank 3/4 of the way up with newly salted Ro\DI water. I am then going to put the rock in and fill the rest of it up. I am gonna leave it alone for a few months, once 2 months pass I will test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate, as well as other paramenters. Is that a good way to let the tank cycle, or was the cycle complete when I added the already cured rock? any thoughts or opinions?

and the war starts again, during the "cycling" process if the NH3,4 reaches 1 ppm i do a 20% water change and only if the NH3,4 reaches 1 ppm. everybody on this site disagrees with me. and im just waiting to here the replies.

if i was gonna start a tank from scratch, i would nuke the rock.

all of this is just my opinion, and i am by no means telling you to just do this and not listen to others.

    Hey Reef Guru,

I am sorry if I started a war, I am sure either way is good, some folks just like to do things differently. Although I would like to nuke the rock(I am assuming that your talking about wipeing all life off of the rock, Probably using bleach) I would preferr to try and save as much as I can from the rock, don't know how much I can save, but it's worth a try, thanks Guru I really appreciate your opinion this.
