Plant with tenticles?

Could someone please tell me what this thing is growing beside my mushrooms? It's just popped up in the last couple days.

I hate to break it to you but that looks like bryopsis. An algae that can take over your tank. It's worse than regular hair algae because nothing will eat it due to it being toxic. If you can remove the rock that it's on permanently, do it.

 

I just did a search for bryopsis and all the images I checked don't really look like what I have. The tenticles are purple and smooth, the stuff around its base looks like the hair algae I have growing in the tank right now, still need to get something to clean that up. Is this just a beginning stage of bryopsis?

 

Whoops...sorry about that, my eye went directly to the bryopsis. The green "hair algae" is definitely bryopsis though so take heed

Now, exactly what in that picture should I be looking at? Can you zoom in or put a circle around it using Photoshop or anything?

Good morning H-Rad. All I see is a sprig of bryopsis in that photo. The color of this algae can range from light green to dark green (almost purple). I've even seen some that has a silvery appearance. The algae that is in the picture you are posting has the exact same structure as the bryopsis that I'm struggling with in my very own fish tank. It probably looks purple to you because of the blue actinic lighting. If I have time later, I'll snap a few pictures of what I have. In the meantime, do a search on Google Images for bryopsis and maybe you'll see something that resembles what you have.

 

I'll give you some free advice and you do with it what you will.. But I'd get that rock out asap and toss it. I made that same mistake ONCE! you can't kill it or find anything to eat it.. I have tried P.H at 8.9 to 9.3 and Plus for over a month up to 6 weeks and Magnesium Chloride at 2,300ppm for a month and then Kent's tech M as I heard that was the key But after several Gallons still have it just far far more of it. I'm looking at tearing this tank totally down sooner or later.. All because I did not toss a rock with a nice scroll coral on it.. and thought I could scrub it off ): Good luck with it. If you find anything the eat or kill it let me know I'll buy the information.

 

could always pull the rock and bleach it
