I have an orange plate coral, doing really good.. Eats like a horse..

Each day theres a small pile of sand at the edge of it..
About as big as a quarter, and more then 1/4" high..

I use my turkey baster and carefully blow the sand away..
But, the next day.. it's right back, and always at the same spot..
I know it's not my sand shifting snails or starfish..

Do plate corals do this..?? And why..

    Thanks, Larry

I wouldn't think it would be the plate coral. But that is just a hunch. You know we want a pic of this pile. :)

my brittle stars will dig a hole out under a rock and will extend a arm out and make a neat pile by handing from foot to another from the rock to the end of his arm. for some odd reason it reminds me of ants. if that makes any sence that was hard for me to type out for some reason. im not saying thats whats going on in your tank just thought i would add that. keep us informed on what it is

Possibly a polychaete worm or other form of microcrustacean responsible for this.

My two favorite music artists together! Though The Dave Matthews Band did lose one of their original musicians last August! LEROI MOORE whol was responsible for the bands blues/saxaphone riffs! RIP-Leroi Moore 1961-2008!

My camera want take good pictures of my tank, but will try later tonight..

Do you think my sand shifting starfish, might do this..??

I'll move my plate over a bit.. And dig down and see what it is.. I hope it's not a polychaetes ( bristleworm ) .. Even tho I have removed alot of smaller ones, over time ..

I have had some strange things show up in my tank..
