    I used beach sand and it worked fine, but I switched to arag. sand when I moved because I did not like the color and I felt that the nitrification process was not as efficeint in beach sand. It's fine to use and I would say go ahead if you want to use it just be smart about where you collect it and it may be a good idea to wash it down with a hose and let it dry out real good.
