We recently got a new Canon T1i to take pics of our coral for sale. We were playing with it today and got some decent shots.

Still some room for improvement, but getting a lot better than our initial batch of photos :)

I have a Nikon P90. Couldn't quite afford the extra $200 towards an slr. I like it. Will eventually upgrade to a Nikon D40, or the newest model whenever I upgrade.

Those are some big pieces. :)
    Good pictures too.

Nice pictures – what was more expensive, the lens or the camera? lol

I picked up my XTI for $450 or so – my macro lens (which I suspect you used above) was $1,200. It’s all about the optics !!

Thanks for sharing the pics !

FYI - your web site is not displaying correctly.

Believe it or not, these pictures were taken with the standard 18-55 lens, not a macro lens. We got a nice rubber hood, put the camera right up against the glass on the tank so no light could get in, started snapping away and that's what we ended up with. The corals in the front of the tank (polyps, coco worm, plate coral) ended up coming out a lot clearer than the corals in the back of the tank (montipora). Even with the lens at 55mm, it could only shoot about 1ft into a 2ft deep tank while still maintaining good clarity. We'll probably end up picking up a 100mm macro lens to get really good pictures all the way to the back of the tank.
