Last night one of my Orange Ricordia mysteriously disappeared. I think that my Diamond Goby may have stolen it and taken it down in his hole underneath a large rock. My question is, should I tear down my rock structure (the rock that he hides under is a large base rock) or just leave the Ricordia to die? If it does die, will I see a large spike in ammonia/nitrate/nitrite?

The tank is a 120 G just to get an idea of my water volume.

I would not pull rock work apart for it. It may have decided to move and let go of the rock it was on. It could be hidden somewhere else in the tank. You shouldnt see any kind of spike even if it does die.

My clown got angry and threw a green mushroom behind the rockwork once. About a month later it came floating back out. Maybe you will get lucky and the same will happen to you.

Why would you think your goby stole your mushroom??? Is it in need of a good interior decorator??

The mushroom probably just detached and is floating around somewhere. Taking out all your rocks for it would be just ridiculous. Especially the amount of rocks you must have in a 120 gallon.

I have witnessed my Diamond Goby stealing empty crab and snail shells and taking them into his hole underneath the rock! He is wierd, and that is why I think that he would steal the Ricordea since it was rubberbanded to a rock.

I had a watchmen goby steal a piece of GSP and place it in front of his cave opening

I can almost promise you it simply slipped out of the rubber band and is cruising around the tank. They are VERY slippery and rubber bands alone won't hold them down unfortunately. I understand the goby moving shells and such. But with this new information that's really what I think happened.

So it is probably stuck underneath a rock somewhere? I guess I won't really worry about it even though it was an awesome orange with a red rim and a green center. I have one that is definitely secured to a plug.
