Hi Everyone. I'm a newbie to this group and marine aquariums in general. Currently I am in the process of curing the "uncured" Tonga Live Rock that I received last Thursday. I am curing the rock in a seperate 30 gal tub and the curing process appears to be going well. When I got the rock it was in good condition with lots of color. As expected, some of the coraline algae has faded and a few items turned black and died off; however, the 3 items in the attached photos look the same as they did on day one. I was expecting them to turn black and die off as well, but now that they have hung around this long, I'm not sure what to do. One looks like a small tree, another like a small bush, and the 3rd looks like a very unhappy :( piece of coral (mushroom perhaps?).

I would appreciate it if anyone can help me identify these. I'm not sure if they are doomed to die off and I should just remove them, or if there is anything I can do to same them and still cure my live rock.

    Thanks in advance,

    Frank

The second one kind of looks like Codium. Nice macroalgae if it is. Can you post bigger pictures? It's hard to see since the pics are so small.

I agree with Reeron on the second pic, some kind of macroalgae, but the first and last is hard to tell. Luna

the first one almost looks like a dead/dying pocillopora, the last almost looks like a ricordea to the left? or in the center almost looks like a type of polyp maybe.

Thanks everyone...sorry about the poor pics...not sure if these ones are any better (I included a front and back pic of the white thing)

Looking online at other pics, I think Reeron may be right that the second thing may be Codium. I am setting up a 45 Gal peacful community tank w/ live rock. Would there be any advantage / disadvantage to keeping this type of algae in a community tank?

I don't want to kill off / discard the other 2 if there is a chance that they are coral that could be revived...if they are beyond help at this point I want to get them out of there to avoid a prolonged ammonia spike as they die off.

ok now i deffinately think the first is a pocillopora, and the third is some type of leather maybe, the pocci looks like it is trying to extend some pollyps, i would leave that one be, but the leather might be done for.

Thanks {Nano}Reefer...I think I'll go ahead and remove the leather and try to keep the others.

I would leave the macro algae on there if its surviving, good for the tank I believe, you can always trim or remove it if its too large, or if/when you start a fuge put it in there
