Even though it was expensive, I think picking it out is really important. My LFS charges $10 a pound for live rock, which is a lot, but I really like seeing the pieces myself. So I can pick out the size, shape, colors of coralline, sponges, etc.

Keep the rock and buy cheap base rock in the future!

Hmm, I am a tad lost (as usual).

You posted that you decided to “start the reef tank” – so am I to assume this is a brand new non-cycled tank or is it a cycled tank that you are now beginning to stock? Huge difference on what we say next.

I’ll assume that after months and months of research you knew enough to cycle your tank and are now beginning to stock it. In which case, at $9 per pound for LR I don’t think you over spent – and if you did it was marginal at best. This is a new tank and will need time to go through its growing pains anyway. The LR is a great investment that will only benefit your tank and help filter the water for when you do put those Ocell’clowns in your display.

Are you impatient ? no more then the rest of us – stop beating yourself up and enjoy your purchase. This is only the beginning my friend, take some pictures and monitor the growth….post and keep us updated.

If you are happy with the size and shape of the rocks then keep it. If not then exchange it. You don't change LR too often. You can change fish a whole lot easier.

yeah i've with the person above, marcorocks has the prettiest dry rock i've ever seen. so keep them in mind for the future.

I'd keep the rock but in the long run if u ever need more rock i'd try a local reef club first, u have a better chance of getting awesome rock with lots of goodies super cheap, i got mine for 2$/lb and there were a boatload of corals and pods and wat not all over them. also keep local reef clubs in mind if you ever want to buy some equipment even livestock, my biggest recommendation is to always check what some of the members haveup for sale usually u'll be getting a steap discount pricewise and a healthy critter.
