    Hey folks,

I read a lot about salt water tanks over the last year; had been very busy for the last couple of month and almost forgot about it. But now it’s all back! I definitely want one.

I searched Google images last night again for nice tank pictures and found this one here:

I simply fall in love with that scene. I wasn’t able to figure out the owner of this beautiful setup.

Does anybody know the user or owner of this tank?

And if not; can you guys help me to identify the tank (maybe the brand), size, the corals, the fish, filter system and anything else that is or might be used for this awesome tank?

    Thanks,

    Michael

You are likely looking at a total custom job.

That looks like a "cube" on the side aquarium - both sides are likely equidistant.

The vertical depth of the tank suggests that it was custom made as it looks like its only 14 or so inches deep.

I would say that is a 100+ gallon setup with mostly soft corals and some LPS (hard to tell from pic). The large school of fish in the background suggests the larger tank size.

If money is no object for you, then you can have this thing built to your specs and you can design your rockscape to look like the one shown.

Without a more detailed picture, species ID on a lot of the corals will be very difficult.

    Hope this helps. . . .

It is a beautiful system, with with ~ 55 fish (visable), soft corals and sponges...it is no small system.

    I probably should have said closer to 200 gallons . . . .

That is a pretty neat tank.
Definitely some odd coral combinations. He has softies, macros, leathers, carnations, clams, and anemones..... possibly a frogspawn.
I see no other fish other than cardinals and chromis. Judging from their size, I would guess this is a 36" Cube 24" Tall at roughly 130 gallons. You can see the corner overflow, and return.
I do not see any shimmer lines, but there is definite dark areas of the tank. I am going to say that they are running a couple of halides over this tank.

I would say that this is a custom tank. Whoever it is, I have never seen them on here. I will tell you one thing.... they know what they are doing. It takes a lot of work to get carnations to reproduce in captivity.

    Could it be about 40'' x 40'' x 20'' (136 G) or even bigger?

When you guys click on the picture it opens a pretty big image.

Any suggestions where to order this kind of tank online? Is it glass or acrylic?

    Thanks for the help :)

Welcome to 3reef. I agree with the cube diagnosis. It would appear to me to be 4 foot x 4 foot x 2 foot. Looks as though there are clams, anemone some LPS and lots of softies. It is absolutely gorgeous and a very worthy goal to strive for.

It's incredibly hard to judge size when there are so few references. My guess would and experience would say it's a large tank. Maybe 3'x3' or 4'x4' 4'x3'. However, given there is only one overflow and it looks to be relatively small, it may be a smaller tank (meaning 100+ gallons verse 200-300 gallons). It does look like a square, but seems shorter then it is wide. My guess, is about 24" tall. It also must have a monster refugium as the carnation corals require "dirty" water to survive. This may be an upgrade from a previous tank as the rock looks very well seasoned, but the sand is pristine, very strange for an older system. He does have quite the mix of clams, anemones, sponges, macro and soft corals. A few feather dusters too. Also, keep in mind that some of the corals could be new, so it's really hard to make any assumptions about filtration, lighting and such.
