I see you got the photos and some good advice....feel free to send a private message to anyone...you will have this up and running soon.
    So, How about some info?
What size tank..how long have you cycled...what media(how much rock) whats your sand base depth...what kind of lights ;D ..Lot of stuff.
We all LOVE pictures..so if you open up a photo bucket account and introduce them in that fashion, or use the Photo tools link to the right of the page here....either way, show some pix of what ya got going on....and remember to tell yourself and your son, that this is a process...it will happen, but you must not rush it. sounds like your off to a great start.

thanks everyone for your quick responses... I'm going to try and move the collection funnel to right below the water level - right now its about 4-5 inches below the water level. I don't see anything in the collection cup at all - I only see lot's of bubbles right below it. I raised the collection cup (with the O ring) up a bit and will leave it with heavy bubble creation below it and see if the skimmer settles down in a couple of days. I'm also going to try and call CPR for help... Thanks....

You are on the right track. Mine did this same thing for about 3 days. Did you rinse everything in hot water before you installed it? This will help remove the oils left over my the making of the unit and help get that good slimcoat on it..

One more tip: I adjusted my air intake valve where it is producing bubbles in the chamber so you can just see the black tubes.
