We have not done anything to the tank recently. We have been having a problem with nitrites. but I could have read the test wrong. I'm still new to all the sciency stuff that comes along with this hobby.

I appologize for coming off the way I did. I am just extrememly frustrated that this all happend in a few days. I had never heard of the cyanide method and it really pissed me off that people still do that. Its cruel.

All of the other fish are fine. There are no visible problems that I can see with any one other than the firefish. I watched him eat this morning and he ate more than anyone else. he has more energy than he did yesterday and looks like he has gained weight even since yesterday. so im starting to think either he is the low percentage of survivors of this aweful treatment or something spooked him into starving himself for a week.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Or perhaps intestinal parasites.

IMO, I would be proactive and treat with Prazi Pro. You cant be 100% sure its a cyanide issue. If it is an internal parasite, your other fish are at risk as well. It's a tough quarantine dilemma we are all faced with at some point. Be proactive.

just read that I can soak their food in it rather than running it through filtration...what do you think of that idea?

im not going to stress him out just as a precautionary measure. that will do him more harm then good. especially if it is not parasites

Your choice. That's why you QT first, otherwise you ate just taking chances. Not trying to give you a hard time, I've been in your position before. I almost lost all of my big fish because I didn't QT the last one.
