I am looking for a cool, but easy to maintain idea for my empty 40g breeder. It will be in my living room and I would like something that will catch peoples' attention when they visit.

At the same time, I already have a 29g reef in my room and I travel A LOT, so another reef is out of the question. I am thinking some sort of FOWLR tank would be ideal, as I also have a sump with an oversized 90g skimmer and refugium.

I considered doing an exclusive bare bottom snowflake eel tank or a macro algae filled tank, but both of those have been met with mixed reviews as the eel will likely outgrow the tank and I will likely have to prune the macroalgae.

All ideas are welcomed as I am still leaning toward an eel right now, but would love other options to consider.

You could do the FOWLR with a carpet nem and a single pair of clowns, people love that symbiotic relationship.

Considered a damsel only tank... until I found out it would end up being a single damsel tank after a short period of time.

The only problem is that I don't have the lighting for a nem and didn't really want to spend the $$$ to upgrade. Thanks for the idea, I'll keep it as a possibility!

I've seen multiple instances of people that had them and as they get larger they get very aggressive and often end up fighting until only one remains, especially if they aren't the same species of damsel.

What is the lighting fixture? Is the 40 going to have a lid?

I would do a dwarf fuzzy lion. Love their personality.
