2 Damsels of your choice.Preferably the same species or 1 Starkii Damsel(beautiful and look and act like dwarf angels)1 Dottyback(spingeri are awesome) then you could do the hawkfish.I wouldn't mix a hawk with a jawfish.

I love all of the ideas you're getting! I love the idea of the jawfish, they have to be one of the coolest looking fish in this hobby IMO. I would say whatever would play nice with the jawfish and go from there. I agree with Vinny, if you plan it right with the correct species, damsels can get along. I believe it's Mr. Bill who has damsels in his tank now.

All kinds of great ideas. Waiting in anticipation for the trigger pull.

I'm leaning toward the jawfish tank idea, but was actually considering getting a pair and then another couple of fish to fill the upper area of the tank.

The "trigger pull" will be after I move at the end of October. I am going to try and get my tank cycling immediately after my move so I can start stocking after I get back from travelling for Christmas.

UNFORTUNATELY, those blue dots are expensive little suckers, so i will likely need to go with yellow head jawfish instead. Not nearly as striking, but still pretty dang cool and I won't have to drop $200 on them.

So what else should I get to accompany the lovely pair? I'm thinking very active fish, like some variety of wrasse.

Ok, the tank is set-up and cycling... 40g breeder bare-bottom with about 50 lbs of live rock. 90g skimmer and DSB in the sump- debating if I want to throw some chaeto in too.

However, I have narrowed my possibilities down to 3 options and would like some feedback:

Option #1- Snowflake eel with 2 damsels (snowflake would be exchanged for a smaller one when it outgrows the tank)

Option #2-a peaceful mixed community tank with pajama cardinals, royal gramma, firefish, and a blenny

Option #3- species tank aka all cardinals or all chrysiptera damsels (need suggestions of species that won't kill each other off)

no jawfish? well, in your list, I'd opt for #2 and maybe put in a colorful wrasse instead of the cardinal.

I will be turning my 40B when I upgrade in to a fuzzy dwarf lionfish tank and a conch or other sand turner, that could hide. A DSB, lots of rocks for him to hide in and a few macros or a nice big leather. I was thinking a single kessil 150 but your T5s would be just fine.

No :( ...I decided to shy away from a DSB for ease of cleaning, as I travel a lot and want this to be an easy maintenance tank.

I was actually thinking of a trio of cardinal fish, not just one. I have a reef tank with a mix of fish in my room, so i was hoping to do something a little different with this tank
