When tangs start to peck (eat) corals, it's because they are under-nourished/fed. They are not coral eaters, but, will experiment when hungry. Not actually intending on eating corals.

I had a Kole Tang who had that fungus stuff you're talking about. Is any of the fungus on its mouth? If so, that's why it's picking at your corals. It's trying to use anything it can to get it off. That's what my Kole did. Unfortunately I was unable to capture my Kole and so it died :(

Still a good investment, just for the learning experience.

Guess you have been told enough, ICK is all about stress.

Thank God, nothing I have ever had to deal with. Think trick is only get fish that have been at LFS for a while that have been swimming in Cu bath.

Making sure they look good and healthy before bringing home, by watching over couple of days...

Also sticking with juveniles whenever possible may be another factor.

Wish you, tang (& wife) lots of luck!

    :)

i got another question. should i use good ro water for the tang hyposalinity tank or can i just use some tap with prime. my tap is not that bad, not much of anything in it.what if i mix some up with prime and run threw some carbon for lil first. just dont wanna waste expensive ro water, when i dont have to worry about corals.

RO/DI is the only way to go for ANYTHING saltwater IMO. You should never mess with tap water unless your washing dishes or taking a shower! RO is cheap compared to bad things happening...

I'd pick up a small pump and airstone for $10 to put in the 10 gal hospital tank. Since it isn't cycled, and you don't have an LS or LR in there, no skimmer or filter, you're susceptible to quick water parameter changes. Check Nitrate, Nitrite, and Ammonia every day, and keep adding water from your display tank to the hospital tank, and throw the water in your hospital tank down the drain. What are you dosing with to treat the fungus?
