Quite a few snails will mow that down for you. Add more clean up crew, and they should run that right outta town.

changing the water 1st is a good idea, and rip/ tear syphon as much algae as you can in the process

the fish will not be that bothered by the black out, they will be very pale once the lights come on again , but generally colour up pretty quickly (having spent so long in nocturnal faded colouration IME it can take an hour or 2 for them to resume normal daytime colours )

many people with more delicate coral species have done 5 days without issues with the corals
I have never done a 5 day blackout on my SPS set up
but have done it more than once over the years with various softie, LPS inhabited aquariums, and aside from being as shrunken as they possibly could be (shrooms so tiny you could see 90 % plus of the rock they covered ) they all came around within a day or so of the lighting being resumed

if you have a sump and do not normally use a filter sock, a sock in place to capture free floating algae die off during the blackout, would also be beneficial , again clean that out properly under boiling hot water daily to kill of the algae spores it is capturing for you

Oh for sure. Even doing changes every two weeks now, they seem to come around very fast.

Since doing all these updates recently I have also added a di unit as of a couple water changes ago. Do you guys think that the use of RO water with no DI contributed to the algae problem?

Contributes to the problem, kinda. It doesn't get your TDS to 0. And you may run around with some Phosphates as of that.
