    No problem

How long has the star looked like this? Did your nitrates raise when this started? Does the skin look like it's melting?

I'm a bit stumped. The best thing I could suggest is a RO/DI water dip with iodine to kill off any possible parasites. Make sure it's RO/DI since inverts are very intolerant of copper.

If you still need to cool the tank, put some ice cubes in a Ziploc bag and float it in the tank. It's a good temporary fix until you can get your a/c issue figured out.

its looked like this for a couple weeks. but my father just bought the test kit for the nitrates and everything else. the only thing we could keep track of was the nitrites. it could have been this hight for awhile. we've had a penquin 550 submercable powerhead or those bubble sheilds if that would effect the tank or could it be food that were feeding them? but whats an RO/DI?

Hey jeeprider - stumped as I cant find a definite culprit from above list
may want to observe the tank from a distance as IME some creatures carry out anti social behaviour when they are not being watched

probably down to time of year then, where are you from? heaters may not be working anyway, its just ambient temp coupled with heat from equipment thats giving you 87 degrees

also to be on safe side, check your heater in case its sticking in the on position again causing tank to heat up higher than the thermostat setting

sorry i didn't get back to you right away. talking with my dad. but i'm from virginia. my dad actually just lowered the temprature on the tank but the only thing is, the drop in temprature began a new problem. it happened with our blue tang. it actually started up the ick. already our racoon butterfly started itching against rocks. were trying to avoid that problem from hapening again.

actually your right about that. while my dad was on our downstairs i happened to find out who the culprit was. it was actually the butterfly. hes the one picking at all the fish especially the star. which might explain why all the other fish; the green chromis, and the 2 clowns are hiding in the far left corner of the tank.

Hi Jeeprider - Ich being kicked off within 1 hour to be honest seems a bit rapid to me , Are there spots present/ visible? fish do sometimes flash against objects for other reasons, not just in reaction to parasites
water quality / polutants can irritate the gills and cause this reaction

have you got any carbon running in your system ?

I hope no rapid drop was done and I stated earlier drop it by a degree or 2 per day until its down at 80 - I hope you have not tried to drop it from 87 to 80 within 1 hour as that may cause shock related problems and infections

    hope everything is OK
