Just having a Penguin 550 is not going to provide enough flow to keep oxygen throughout the tank. It's rated at 145 gph. You need to have a combination of pumps keeping your gph at least 3x your tank's size.

Aside from algae blooms, this is another reason why to keep direct sunlight from your tank ;)

    totally agreed
irrespective of any parasitic concerns 87 degrees is to warm for the comfort of most fish , the amount of O2 that can be held in a body of water is governed by temperature- the colder the water , the higher the dissolved O2 levels

thus even with good aggitation the tank at 87 will reach oxygen saturation sooner than it would if tank was at 80 degrees

I would also suggest running carbon , if your not - as this could help make conditions a little more pleasant in the tank and remove any nasties that we might not yet be aware of

GPH = gallons per hour. It's the measurement of how much water the pump moves.

The most popular kinds right now are the Hydor Koralias. They're cheap and very solid, IMO.

Carbon or activated carbon is a chemical filer medium that removes many impurities from water - it binds them to it

Im just suggesting this in case there is any impurities in your tank, resulting in decay from the recent fish losses etc
