Please ID the Red Algae

    I've had this in my tank for some time now. It started on one small piece of LR and has since spread to surrounding rock and corals. I'm assuming it is bad due to the fact that it is encroaching on other corals. Please ID so I know that the plan of action is.

    Cyano? Im new to the algae guessing game so dont take my word.

    I don't think its Cyano, it looks a little leafy. Here is a better picture.

    Ok after searching all my favorite sites.

    I believe it is Red Dictyota!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    So bad if its Dictyota?

    I thought it might be Fauchea because some parts have a nice blueish color. but it does also look like Dictyota.

    Some people actually buy it, as in they consider it a desirable macro.

    I can see why, I think it's attractive too.

    Now if I was striving for a sps dominate tank I probably would not think it was desirable.

    Perhaps making sure you have limited phosphates and nitrate available might keep it in check, other than that I can not speak to how invasive it is, I have never kept it.
