These purple polyp looking soft stems (all purple) came with my Caribbean LR. Since I snapped this pic, they have spread and grown like crazy. They shrink a bit at night and open up for the light.

Any idea what they are and if they are harmless or not (they are quickly taking over my tank)? Are they just your basic harmless polyp? Sorry for the dark photo.

    Forgive me...I'm a noob:confused:

    Thanks in advance

Post a picture if you can while the lights are on and they are opened up!

Give them some decent light and they should color up better. They are just a paly or zoanthid, I can't tell what exactly those are. They will grow quick and spread quickly, but are a type of coral and some people love the different varities and color combinations.

Here are what button polyps look like, closed up(2nd pic). The second one just happens to have some sand on them.

Sorry again about the horrible photo quality. I'll try to snap another one now.

This 2nd pic is like a mirror image of what I have spreading all over my LR!
