    Hmmmm

Many algaes contain secondary metabolites (toxins triggered when they are munched on) so this is not as easy as it appears. Some Caulerpa species are taking over whole reefs due to these secondary metabolites.

But Brian that's exactly what I'm saying. C. taxifolia or C. prolifera have soooooo much more caulerpenyne (Secondary metabolite) than most of the rest of the species.

You cannot go to the Genus level and say XYZ. You have to go to the species level.

Back when I first started... I was working at the LFS and ordered 2 boxes of premo fiji rock. I cycled my tank with it pretty much and heavily skimmed and did water changes fequently. So I had a lot of stuff stay alive on the rock, Caulerpa being one of them. It just showed up one day and thought it looked cool so I left it. We went out of town for the weekend, my first timer stuck on for the whole weekend. The Caulerpa went sexual and I came home to a tank full of caulerpa. Literally full, my fish were all huddled under some rock in the corner of the tank. The only way I got rid of it was a total break down. Now I panic everytime I see some in my tanks, hahaha!

Yep.....many species of Caulerpa are quite invasive and dangerous. Not just in our tanks, in the ocean too.

:p Sorry about my post, it was just some light hearted comedy, I guess you might not have taken fancy to that. But that's okay!

I agree, it's not as easy as it may seem some of the times, just be careful with it is all.
I personally, have never had an algae problem i couldn't control by just keeping my tank clean regularly. Which means, scrubbing, vacuuming, and doing wc's.
