    The diatoms consume the silicates in your tank. They are the "brown stuff." They will eventually starve themselves out. It doesn't take too long for that to happen, but if you'd like, introduce a few more astreas, ceriths or turbos.

    Wow i did not have the pleasure of getting a great key west education... and no I am not from Lumberton Texas just living here. Also I did not know I was gonna be schooled on a FISH TANK forums.... Thanks for all the help

    Got a clean up crew today.... they are tearing whatever brown junk it is up but who knows what it is
