Hi all. Just set up my first saltwater tank and this was on a piece of live rock. Can someone tell me what it is and if there's any way i can keep it alive?

I just thought it looked cool. LoL! Guess that just shows what a newbie I am! But is there a specific method that I should use to get rid of it? Do I just yank it of the rock? I've noticed there's some small ones growing on other rocks as well. How do I get rid of those?

Aiptasia reproduces very rapidly by splitting off clones - that's what makes it a devastating pest in reef tanks. They also seem to be able to regenerate from any bits of base left on the rock if you do an incomplete removal. That's why you need to either completely remove the rock under an Aiptasia or kill them with something like Joe's Juice, lemon juice, kalk, etc., delivered directly to each anemone.
