Hi! I have a 55g tank that has been up and going for one year now and I am still having issues and need help from the experts on here. First, the equipment I have is T5 lights, 3 koralias, about 65lbs of live rock, heater and AquaC remora hang-on. The inhabitants are: 2 clown fish, 1 orange-spotted goby, 1 jawfish, 1 damsel, 1 sand sifting star and 1 red star, 1 scallop along with the crabs and snails. I also have some corals: 3 zoa colonies, pagoda cup coral, and 2 patches of gsp.
I do weekly water changes and only feed twice a week, but I still have the red slime algae and my nitrates stay at about 20, all other parameters are normal. I thought maybe a phosphate reactor would help, but I don't know much more about them? Is there any other equipment that you think I need to add? I am wanting to do a 46g bowfront with corals only sometime this summer, so I would like to know how to do everything right. Thanks for the help everyone!

What are you using for your replacement water and changes?

yea i would test your phosphates and also test your salt/water freshly mixed to see if ur salt has phosphates in it. and as far as a phosphate reactor, you can just get GFO and put it in a canister filter and run that. also are you getting good skimate out of ur aqua c?

GFO will reduce or eliminate what is already there but you need to identify and correct the source of the problem.
What do you feed and how much, you already said how often.
What are you using for water? Hopefully it is RO/DI you make yourself so you alone control its quality.
What salt mix are you using?
What do you have for substrate? Was either it or the rock from a used system and if so how well was it maintained?

55 gallons in a moderately to heavily stocked system is starting to push the capabilities of a Remora.

you seem to have good flow and not feeding too much, so i would venture a guess that it is the substrate has a high silica reading...
