I am a certified vet tech and work in a Vet clinic here in town. I am saying this from personal experince and professional experience. You have to be able to calm down. I know it is hard and you don't understand what is going on and you want answers. You are going to see a specialist and you will get those answers. However until that time you have to calm down and not stress. You are thinking the worst when it could be an easy fix. You don't know but what your dog knows is you are stressing and that is causing him to stress. The less stress you have the less he will have and it will make it easier all around for everyone involved....kids, you and your furry friend! Ok he has a curve in his spine but how many people have a curve, walk a little funny but live a normal life? A lot so just wait until you get answers. I also agree believe what your vet says unless....your little voice inside is telling you something different. But your vet, especially a speciallist, knows what they are talking about! You luck and let us know how things turn out! Keep us updated and you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I will pray for you and the little one. I know that you are scared, I've been there myself, but hold on to your faith. You would be surprised at how well he might do. I have had cats that I breed that had hind end problems and all of them got strengthened --they might have walked funny, but they had long and good lives.

Vets can do amazing things for dogs. Our baby boy Pico, had chased a cat and took a tumble. He came back to the house and was unable to move his left side. We took him to the vet and he told us that Pico had herniated a disc in his neck. So we wen to a specialist (Veterinaary Neurological) they did an MRI, found the disc did the surgury, and now Pico is 100% back to normal.
It was not cheap but if it were a human child money would not be a consideration. Good Luck
Our prayers go out to you and your family.

My family and I wish you the best and are praying for you and yours. I too had to deal with our Chow's health. For her it was due to old age but with love and care she is still with us. We also rescued a pom a year ago knowing she had only days to live. It was my son who said that she still needs a home and love no matter what. Well I am pround to say that she is alive and well. She no longer takes meds and the vet gave her a clean bill of health. He said she should live a long normal life. Prayers and Love do work.

Thanks for the kinds words and prayers....went to the specialist today. There is nothing that can be done for brutus, the kink in his spine is way to severe and will eventually leave him immobile from the shoulders down as the nerves and spine dies. Seeing his progression in the last week or so has led us to believe brutus only has a couple weeks at best until its to inhumane to keep him going. :( I cant write anymore cause im breaking down and the tears are making the screen blurry.....thanks for the support everyone, i can only hope i see him again one day.

Man, I am so very sorry to hear that. It absolutely breaks my heart. I was praying for the best. Right now just love him and give him all the treats you can...but dont do the "death watch" over him. That is when every little movement he makes is analyzed.....is he hurting, did he get worse, etc. You will make yourself crazy! Again, dogs live in the here and now. He does not have any clue what is going on.

How old are your kids? One thing I did for my nieces and nephew when they had to put their dog down was bought them a stepping stone kit designed for dog paw prints..you can get it at many pet stores and many craft stores and have them make a little pawprint stepping stone of him before he gets too bad. Now Piper was on her way out when they did theirs so it was a little harder, but you can have them do it, take pictures and make it a fun day. That way they can have a little something of him forever. Have them find a special little tree or something to place it under and set it up. Maybe even plant a little tree where the stone will be..I dont know, but that way they will have something else they can remember him by while he is still healthy. I had also bought a really nice plaque from Petsmart and had Pipers name engraved and had her tags placed on it and they placed it on their mantle

The emergency clinic where I had Oscar put down did the neatest thing...the did an ink pawprint of him and signed his name and date he was put to sleep on this real nice piece of paper. Even though it has been almost 9 months now, I still have that paper and the card that the vet sent me that everybody signed with a personal saying on it. I have it in my living room. So you will find little things to help you get over this also

But again, just enjoy what time you have. Who knows you might have a lot of time still ahead with him!
