Hi I have posted in the coral forum about my 3 head tourch not doing good 2 off the head have gradually close & the other is not looking good.
I came to the conclusion it was because i dumped a water change load off stone cold water over the top off it two weeks ago but since adding the ro water ( which is not my own shop brought as i moved & had not set up my ro unit at the new house) things have gone rapidly down hill like i said my tourch is pretty much dead, my ridicorda looks droopy & lifeless , my button palps are shriveling up & my green star palp has now started not openning up in patches! All my params are stable & perfect Ammo, nitrite, nitrate All 0 ph 8.1 at eleven in the morning cal 440 kh 12 and so on......... so then it dawned on me the shop where i got the ro from had signs saying they were now using copper treatment in there marine fish tanks due to never ending fish loss due to sickness. Could it be possible that two weeks ago when i bought the ro from them they gave me some that had the copper medication in it? It seems so odd to me that since adding there ro my tanks all dieing off.
It there was copper in the water i added would the all die instantly or gradually over two weeks?
I still have one container & a quarter off the one i added to my tank left so can i get a copper test ?

It just seems to much off a coinsidence that all my corals , palps & mush have all gone bad since adding the water.....................................

    Thanks Kiarah:confused:

Hi Kiarah - terrible news fron you
if you have any doubts - get a copper test kit and confirm or refute your suspicions
low levels of copper do not always mean rapid die off so you may have a point,

what about snails? they are often the early casualties of copper treatments

I would have the shop where you bought the water test it for copper. That way, you don't have to buy a kit. Now, if they won't do that for you, I'd go ahead and buy a test kit and if your water tests positive, have the shop reimburse you for the test kit.

Or just ask the shop if the RO water you bought was treated with copper, or if it was from a different supply. They should know.

no your wrong! ok i havent read the post yet. let me do that now...

i think your may be right sorry.. they should no if they dosed it with copper or not. once a lfs was treating a whole shiping but they had the were smart enough to tell me there water was treated and be extra careful not to put bag water in the tank during a purchase.

personally i think if they treated there water reservoir they sell to customers they are F'ing idiots. doubly so for not warning customers. i would demand compensation for my losses.

but before you make a scene make sure they did do that

WOW, relax! She said there was a warning on the Ro water. Why she still bought it I don't know.

O.k. since you did what you did, let's deal with it...fast! Do a 50% water change or at least 40%. Right after the change get some Copper absorbing media and use more than they recommend. I believe there is a good one called Cuprisorb. Hopefully you can rescue what you have as they may be retracting to protect themselves and may not be dead.

i was getting a bit heated because its just so irresponisble to do that and be in bussiness of selling fish. the way i read it was the sign stated they were treating there stock tanks not there water storage containers

I agree with sostoudt--If they did this they ARE idiots, and I would demand comp.

Yeh you read it right the sign on there fish tanks said they were treating there fish only tanks with copper....... but they use the ro they sell to custermers to do there water changes ....so i suddenly though all went down hill state after i added the water i got from them so what if they gave me there copper treated water by mistake im getting a copper test asap to test the water i have left before i act as if they did by mistake give me copper treated water i really dont think they would own up to it!
And it did cross my mind at the time to ask them if there was copper in the ro just incase but i thought na they wouldnt be that stupid!

& I bought a yellow tang from them before they had the signs up about 4 weeks ago and he only just remembered to tell me they were treating there fish with copper as i walked out the door with the fish!

I just got this horrible feeling its copper as its all go bad from adding there ro......... thursday will tell.

    Thanks K
