    Thanks for the replies.

    I did find out that a 1.25" pipe reduced to a 1" is recommended if using a Durso type drain on a smaller, lower flow tank- smaller being defined as 350 gal. or less on the official Durso site.- thus the design of the plumbing that came with the tank. Per Durso, this reduces noise. Why- unknown.
