Looking for opinions/experience/advice on something before plumbing my 75 tonight

    - i have two return lines. I am wresting with the idea of plumbing one of the lines down to the bottom of the tank and hiding it in the rock. Then i would have that flow in the bottom (which has two nozzles) and then run the other return up to the top by the overflow and have those two nozzles.

Or i can just run them both to the top and have 4 nozzles directing from the top two corners....

What should i do and why?

I also have a bunch of pumps and a K1 as options. BUT, if i can get the flow with the returns right... it would be really nice to keep some of the clutter out of the DT.

    Any other suggestions are welcomed....

If you're going to plumb to the bottom of the tank, I'm assuming you're going to go over the top and then down to the bottom. (If not, then you'll need a check valve so that you don't drain your whole tank during a power outage).

If you go over the top and then down to the bottom, you are going to need a ball valve on each return line (assuming both returns are powered from the same pump). Water will take the path of least resistance and almost all of your flow would come out the two top nozzles with very little coming out the bottom nozzles. If you are going to do this much, you might as well make a DIY spraybar so you are sending flow across the entire length of the tank.

I would leave your returns up on the top of the tank and maybe put a koralia down low flowing near the bottom..

    Thanks Curt -

I am kinda thinking its not worth it... Or needed for that matter

The 75 isn't that deep of a tank so the 4 nozzles at the top should do pretty well i would think in getting flow wherever i want it. Plus i will have more flexibility to change directions with them easily accessible at the top....

Plus the PIA factor of doing (plumbing over the top and down) it is huge

IMO having visible plumbing inside the tank is much more ugly than an additional powerhead. Just add a powerhead or maybe even just upgrading one of your existing powerheads to a larger model might be good enough.
