plumbing question

Ok, I fully admit that I am completely plumbing impaired - I mean really bad. I asked a question in someone else's thread in terms of my overflow. It sounds like Niagara falls. The reason is because the water level is low in my overflow and I've seen people recommend a durso standpipe. I read a little bit about them and it seems that's what I need. Is that my solution?

Can someone please explain how one works?

Water flows up the elbow and down the T, there is a hole in the top cap. The standpipe goes into the bulkhead.

 

That's what my new 75 came with. Its really quite.

 

but it looks like water still flows in the overflow with a drop down, right? the noise is from the streams in the teeth falling down into the overflow....the durso almost like the same level as the pipe there now?

Is there a hole in the top cap to let in the air and correct the flow?

 

Sounds to me like you need a taller standpipe to raise the level in the overflow. I think that's what you mean by waterfall sound?

Just make the Durso sit higher. Lowering the length that the water has to fall

 

I have the same problem. The standpipe seems long enough, but the water level in both the overflow and the tank is about 3/4" too low. I ordered a bigger pump. My wallet hurts.
