plumb it up like you had i tth efirst time, and some where in there add a ball valve or a gate valve that you can slightly shut, this removes all the air from inside the pipe and makes its dead silent. i just set up a 93 cube, and when i f'ed up the plumbing, i was ready to shatter the whole thing with a baseball bat. so i did some long hours of research, and this is what i came up with:

you wont really be restricting flow, your just causing enuff back pressure to remove air (which cuases teh loud gurgling/splashing noise)

    dont lose hope friend!

you can get teh valves from marine depot . com, OR do i did and just go to lowes or home depot, they have stuff thatll work too, fixed teh whole problem for less than 7 bucks. if you check out my 93 in progress thread, you can see my frustration with before and after videos and more pics.

    hope this helps.

dont forget that fresh plumbing is incredibly loud. it needs some time for the "slime" to coat the pipes. it will quiet down in a week or so.

I ordered a nice sch 80 gate from BRS should be here tomorrow. Problem is I have 2 overflows and only ordered 1 valve. :-/ Ehhh gives me a little something to play with for now. What type of standpipe are you using Billie?

Good point. Its been running with tap water for 3 weeks to test for leaks and plumbing noise. But no salt or bio load, some of the pipes are getting slippery though.

Not sure if this will help you. I have a AGA 120 gallon RR dual overflows. I used a Herbie system. Two one inch siphons and two 3/4 emergency overflows. I have seperate return coming over top backside of tank. Both 1 inch drains are increased after bulkhead to 1 1/2 pipe. Its tee'd for the refugium and reduces to 1 inch. It continues down the the 1 1/2 valve and into the skimmer area. I'm am using a ehiem pump which is dead silent. NO micro bubbles, no noise, very quiet. Hope it helps. Read up on the Herbie systems in the forum. There are specifics about dual overflows with herbie system.

How is your water level in the overflows? even with Display? Or down a few inches?

I have a 125 perfecto dual corner overflow and I used 3/4 reinforced tubing opposed to pvc and it is quiet. Not as neat but quiet and helps /reduce head pressure not having 90 degree turns. Just a thought, sorry I don't have better .

Sorry for the delay been at work!!!

It's about 2 inches below overflow's, but that can be controlled by your gate valve. Basically the more you close the valve the higher the water rises in your overflow. More you open it the lower is drops in the overflow. I adjusted mine to approx. 2 inches below overflow line so there is no noise it is dead silent.

No problems, I know that story. lol! Thanks for the reply.

I got my gate valve plumbed in that I ordered and it made a huge difference. I still need one more for the other side. Wanted to see if the Sch 80 valves were really worth the extra $$$. I definitly think so. Super smooth!

Should I use a straight pipe from the bulkhead in the overflow or just keep my durso pipes? If I keep the dursos, should I plug the air intake? If I plug it I dont know if it would restart itself.
