    Thanks guy,really just want to learn as much as i can so i can start working on bigger tank;) This is worst addiction ever...lol actually it makes me feel awesome!!;) will send pics when i do plumbing. The grates are being cleaned daily,since i added fuge,all my hair algae is detaching from live rock.Also been syphoning out old sand and front of tank is bare glass,would like to add some sand,maybe really fine grain dead sand,most of them have silica In it;/ any thoughts.

    Get some medium grain aragonite - Caribsea packages it and sells it. You can also get it from Marco Rocks (right down the road from you) for cheap.

    You want as few fittings as possible on the overflow, it needs to be smooth without bends or restrictions which cause eddy currents or restrictions.

    On the return it doesn't matter as much as it is a pressurized system not a gravity system. You should install a ball valve right off the pump discharge though to throttle flows, not return them to the sump.
