Well my first attempt at my plumbing for my overflow box. Return on the left and overflow "t"d. I was gonna use vinyl tubing to complete it to u tube and complete it to overflow box. Let me know what y'all think and what I can improve...

Well I'm not done, I still have to put my baffles into my sump. I was actually planning on using one.

Are you planning a fuge? I would put a valve on both sides of the T. That way you can control flow to either side.

I was told not to put a valve on the overflow line, just to the fuge and the return line.

Well if you put a valve on one side essentially you control the flow for the other since it can only go the other way. I think the valve on just the fuge is enough. Good looking start though!

I would put 2 ball valves on the "overflow" line.

It will give you much more control. And if you have to isolate one side from the other for any reason you will be able to do so.

And I would definitely use a filter sock.

I had a question about spacing in a sump, how small could I make a return section so I could make my overflow section bigger for an in sump skimmer?

There is some "law of diminishing returns" here.

The smaller the return section, the less "buffer" capacity you will have in terms of how much water you can allow to evaporate before your pump is sucking air and throwing microbubbles into your DT.

If you have an ATO system - then you can make it only as large as you need to phsycially fit and submerge (assuming in-sump pump) your pump.

If no ATO system is used - be sure of the consequences of shrinking the return section of your tank.
