When I move my tank in a few weeks I will be having someone to redo my plumbing. I've had a new sump built and its much larger than what I had plus having a fuge so it will need to be plumbed differentlly. Not quite sure how we are going to do it yet. One thing that I am going to do that you might want--if you haven't done it already--- is to use a union ball valve. That is assuming you have an external pump. I'll be using one union ball valve before the pump and one union ball valve after the pump. I think I will probably put the pump in front of the sump so I can get to it more easily and disconnect it for cleaning or in case the pump goes out and I have to replace it.

I couldn't read your diagram too well, but I would be interested in seeing your pics once you get done so that I can have some ideas for mine. I'm not very mechanically minded and my husband hasn't been much help so I'm doing most of it myself.

Sounds like you have some really good ideas going. Share some more.

Yeah, I've already come up with 2 possible names for the system I built, the Chicago method or the Lazy American System. Hopefully once it is going, the system will be self-substaining and I'll only need to add in food.

I kind of like the Lazy American System. I would like to be as automated as possible. I'm working on it. Just got in my Tunze Osmolator top off system in the other day. I'll have it hooked up once I get the tank moved. I finally found a decent looking container to use as my reservoir since it will be in my living room. It will do until I find something I like better.

Hopefully not even have to do water changes too. Yes, I want this thing to be that self substaining.

Cindy I used Oatey brand PVC Primer and Oatey PVC Cement. The brushs to apply are built into the lid.  ;) :)

Well, I did a couple of "prefills" where I filled up the overflows with a picture of water ... I figured out mistakes from that.

I knew I would mess up ... just a matter of where.

Thanks Matt, I clicked on the image deal and that made a big difference.

I will put the Oatey brand on my list and go to Lowes this week and get it.

Crutkas, where you have that twist are both ends threaded? or is that where you would put a threaded union ball valve? If so would it be threaded on each end?

When you say you are making it so you can remove the entire bottom do you mean be able to move your sump?

Sorry Crutkas, you have such great ideas that I'm trying to be sure that I am following you. I really don't understand this statement.

<<The reason why you don't want it above is you can't remove the overflows and if it is below the 2 twists, you can't remove the bottom without draining. >>

I would like to be able to fool around with the overflow area if I need to . In fact I think I need to now. I'm always afraid of taking something apart for fear that I might not be able to put it back together again.

    Thanks, Cindy

I'm having the images I took over last weekend uploaded to my webserver, I'll size them down and show what i currently have (had actually). I'll mock up the entire system in illustrator and this time not use a transparent background
