    If they're are feathers coming out of the end of it I would guess that they are feather dusters. Harmless filter feeders!

    It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    The link you posted shows, pineapple sponges. Harmless filter feeders, commonly found in areas of darkness, sumps, around flow.
