I know that this is a problem that lots of people would like to have, but I'm having a bit of a pod population explosion in my tank. There's thousands of them in the water column.

Would adding a diatom filter pad to my sump media try help clear them out of the water? My house will be going up for sale soon, and I just want the tank to look its best for the open house.

Or, should I just give in and get a mandarin? LOL The problem with the mandarin option is that I'd have to follow up by raising pods when the tank population crashes.

110 gallons. I'm well under my livestock limits, and I have researched keeping mandarins.... my question is more just about making the water look as clear as possible until the house sells.

My mandarin comment was partially tongue in cheek... as I do love them, I just wouldn't expect one to be able to clear the water that fast.

I run a normal filter pad in my sump media tray (and yes, I clean it every day--and replace it every two weeks), but it obviously doesn't help with trapping pods. Just curious if a diatom pad would scrub them out of the water or not.

Yeah, I was planning on getting a mandarin at some point. I have 250 lbs of live rock, so lots of hiding places.

For those of you that think a UV sterilizer may harm a pod population, let me tell you that it is not the case in my tank. At the most, it is keeping the population in check... at worst, it's nothing more than a tanning booth for them. LOL

No, I didn't get the UV for pod control.... but I had read on-line that it could harm the pod population.

If you want to decrease your pod population you can get 2 mandarain's with that much LR lol Now idk if you would have to keep adding them/seeding. Do you have a fuge or a HOB?

Get 2, and if the poplution gets whiped out return one to the LFS. 2 Ought to reduce the population pretty fast.

Make sure it is 1 male and 1 female, otherwise you might be in for some trouble.

You could probably sustain two in that setup, really depends on what other fish you add later....
