    they explode on diatoms, then recede when the diatoms do. feeding plankton fine micron spirulina or decaying algae helps a ton. ulva keeps up amphipod populations lets see what else....peredhill i think said it all. thanks for ruining the thread pered! ;)

    When I have to talk to students about them I call them "ants of the sea" :) Your analogy about for everyone you see does fit squarely in with roaches though :lol:

    You are right!! In fact every time there is a bloom of the green dust on my glass there's a bazzilion of them on the glass walls!! I wonder when/how I will know that there is enough of them to support a mandarin dragonnette.
