Some of my polyp bunches are shedding masses of flesh-looking clumps. They look like closed polyps except there dosen't appear to be any openings to them and they are the size of 3-4 polyps mashed together.
I have seen new polyps grow from the bases, but have no idea what this is or means. Any help would be karma. Thanks

Any chance you could post a picture? What kind of polyps are you talking about?

if you are talking about zoanthids, sometimes they'll shed outer layers of themselves due to stress...check your params to make sure everything is kosher. i can't give an exact reason why they do it but i had a colony do this in a previous tank, after a water change...i never noticed it again.

Water quality checks OK. Everything in the tank looks like it is thriving so I wouldn't think it is a water problem. It's as though a blob grew up and was dropped. I noticed several of the colonies are doing this. I placed the dropped ones in the refugium and will see if anything happens.
I will get a few pics this evening. Thanks.
Oh, and yes. they are zoos. Differetn colros and even one of the pailio groups is doing this. The blobs are the size of 3-4 polyps if they were crushed together.
