Hello everyone I have a small problem, I have a large coloney of Watermelon zoes, eagle eye zoes, and some eyelash polyops your looking at at least 300 heads on one rock. I bought it at a frag sho about 4 months ago and it has been doing fantastic until recently they all closed up.

Well I did a water change last week because I was adding 2 clams to my tank. I noticed after a few days that fewer and fewer of the zoes in that colony were opening up. Now currently they have been close completely other then a few here and there. Everyone else and everything else is doing great, I have fire and ice polyps, caption america polyps and some cinniman polyps that are doing great.

The specs on my tank are perfect, have already taking it in to have it checked. The lighting is fine. I honestly am totally baffaled on why they would be all closed up for the last 4 days.

    Any ideas?

Ill post some pictures this afternoon.

I have also heard from another person that vitamin c does wonders for zoas. Is this true? Any special place to get it or can you use your average vitamin c from the grocery or health store?

zoa eating nudibranch-they are very tiny little "sea slugs" that feed exclusively on your zoas, thier colors often match thier diet and can be hard to find or see,it takes close observation. Also do you have asterina starfish in your tank? Some are known coral munchers but most are considered reef safe, however, even the reef safe ones can burrow through your zoas irritating the colony. If you can remove the rock,a freshwater dip in ro/di water of the same temp for about 5 minutes may reveal your pest.

No point in starting additional threads for the same problem. The same people see the posts from all sections. :)

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Did you test the water your self?

If you are adding bionic to the tank and are not testing yourself prior to administration you might run into issues.

What salt mix are you using?

Please post an image of the zoanthids if condition continues to rule out zoanthid pox or evidence that a pest is munching on them.

As grinder posted there are a number of pest that can cause damage.
    Zoanthid eating nudibranchs.
    Sun dial snails.
    Sea Spiders.
    Some asterina stars.

Is there are coral near by with sweeper tentacles that is bothering the zoanthids like a Frogspawn?
