Thanks stylaster! Yes, a couple of the ones I kept are that size now but I have changed things up quite a bit over the years. Also, they tend to grow faster if they have a fixed substrate to encrust onto versus the sandbed. I prefer not to have them encrusting onto the rockwork because I like to move them around if needed.

It's not something that's set in stone and when it happens, usually afflicts larger systems that are SPS dominant. This is only based on my conversations with local reefers who have been reefing for a long time. My earlier tanks were never affected but they were much smaller. No one really knows what causes it but have said that tank crashes have occurred around the two year mark. Who knows. It could just be another reefing urban myth :-/

Thanks Sean! Those are Apogon margaritophorus, copper lined cardinals. They grew to about 1.5-1.75" max.

Two years is the time period in which reefers start to get complacent with their system, they start slacking off with maintenance, stop testing parameters, ect...

Are you calling me lazy, friend? ;D It could very well have been the case but I don't recall doing anything drastically different or less of. Also, if it was a matter of upkeep, the problems should have been resolved shortly after resuming the regular maintenance and such. My tank issues took over a year to finally go away completely. I think I just had the bad luck of getting the dreaded Mark (golfish) and Jimmy curses. The problems started soon after their visits

    Welcome to 3reef.

Interesting reading regarding the 2 year curse.

The images are stunning as are the corals.
