Good quote :) I just am paranoid, considering I'm on a second floor apartment and 30 gallons of water on the floor would be a disaster.

I think I heard it once during the day, but I just heard 3 snaps while I was typing this reply alone. So I guess pistol shrimp it is, and he's one active critter when the lights go off.

shop vac is a good invest ment for your case. I have used mine several times since getting my tanks going. I am really clumsy with my water.

I've thought about it. However, I work all day, so if it gives way while I'm at work, I'm in a spot of trouble. Hence my paranoia regarding the popping noise.

yes but if you got home and it was broke better to have then to have not. I am sure it won't break though. They design these tanks very good and 30 gal is not alot of water. I have worked on houses that have had water running for a day or so out of a 1/2 in pipe and they were still in good shape, high water bill though. k+ for your worries though

Just think...you have around 500 pounds of stuff over your neighbors' heads. What fun! I love my pistol shrimp. He's a hoot. The sand is his, and his alone. If your sand starts traveling around, it's definately a pistol. They're little bulldozers.

Thanks man :) I can just imagine having it leak down through the ceiling into the downstairs apt, lol.

Oh, my sand travels all over. My maroon clown enjoys hauling shells all over. I also have Scissortail Goby that's excavated a large cave that he lives in and peaks out of all day. And then the crazy damsels will push sand with their tails for no reason. Big sand dunes all over the place- I've just never seen any shrimp aside from my Peppermint shrimp.

My pep shrimp went MIA after we got our rather large pistol shrimp. He's "large" for his species anyways. Just a heads up...hahaha

Some people say larger pistol shrimp will dine on other creatures of the deep. Like many other animals, it's probably individual to individual.

So yea, how loud do these shrimp get? This is going to increase my beer intake considerably until I find it. I'm contemplating removing it if I can find it, is it normal for a pistol to target practice all night?
