    Puffers will puff up on occasion just to stretch their skin and clean off debris. Its totally normal, mine did that quite constantly, I have pics of it somewhere. Be careful if you ever transfer tanks or quarantine him if you take him completely out of the water (not recommended) that you do it quick and don't spook him during cuz if he tries to puff up and sucks up air it could be really harmful for him and might not be able to dislodge the air during his deflation.
    I'm glad he pooped out the Oring and it sounds like he will be alright.

    I've seen them eat everything from cyano to LR rubble

    Mine ate the food clip that was in the tank. I'm glad to hear he is ok.
