So here it goes again...I just found a 150gal tank for sale for $100. Question is...what fixture and how many bulbs for a mixed reef. Thanks for the input.

No input for this? The wife is talked into it but $100 for it is a steal. Im going to check the condition of the tank today. I would like to start checking out lighting for this tank though.

All 150s are not made equal. Depending on tank length or width you could use a 6-8 t5 fixture to a 2x150W metal halide fixture to an LED fixture. Depends on how deep your pockets are. Good price on tank.

I'm strong to the finish cause I eats me spinach. I'm ReefBruh the reefing man. Toot Toot.

    I have a 150g. 72x18x27

I am running over 1500Watts over it. 1000W just in halides.

That said, you can get away with a ton less on this tank. I am growing SPS on the deck.

I would suggest 3 150Watts at a bare minimum, or a good 6 bulb fixture.

Well I stopped over to look at it today and talked him down to 75. Its an all glass aquarium, 72x18x27. I was looking at a tek retro. Would if I went 6 bulb would that be 60inch fixture? Or would I want to do 2 36 inch with 6 bulbs apeice?

Honestly.... I would do the 60". It would be a little dim on the edges, but it would save you a boat load of money in replacement bulbs every year.

Best bet is to sit down and do the math on how much the replacements would cost.... 36" vs 60" vs 72"

How dim would it be on the ends? Enough for me t notice or just intensity is lost which would limit coral placment?
