Hi all i have tried to get better picture off the brynosis but i have also got a kinda rose flower shaped thing thats red like a rose and looks like it has petals with dots on it ... i have tried to get a picture off it but its the size of a 1pence at the mo & its grow from nothing to that size over the past 3 months.
And if you can see i have a ridicorda mushroom on the rock that has the brynosis but i thought brynosis was bad as it stings the things it touches? sorly if the brynosis was stinginh the mushroom it would detach & find a better place inmy tank?
    Thanks K

From my understanding the bryopsis can poison if eaten, it does not have the ability to sting.

oh right i thought it stung all surrounding life & some one else on my cyano page said it can sting so i asked them if it can sting you when you pull it out and they said it would prob not affect us unless we were allergic to the sting! so i guess not alot eats it then it it is poison?
I have had advice on raising the mag to get rid off it so do you have any further advice?

    Thanks K

Frag off that mushroom and take that rock out of your tank until all of the bryopsis dies. Then scrub real well and re-cure before putting it back into your tank.

ok not to sound to stupid but i dont have a clue about 'frag' i have only had my tank set up for 4-5 months so im still learning. Do you have any good info pages that i can read so i no what frag is? also the bryopsis is on that rock & also on another very large rock & also on my tunze blower head! not in big patches though very small.
Also do you no what the rose looking thing in the pic could be.... its on the same rock that has loads off the bryopsis on it & the little mushroom.
I original took out two off my rocks that had the bryopsis on them & put them in a sperate tank with no lighting & the stuff was gone within 2-3 weeks... the rock is still in there so how long would you say to leave it there for? How long will it take for thr bryopsis to die off totally with no lights & no food?
My husband seems to think its silly to keep taking the rock out 7 putting it in the other tank as new patches keep popping up so he thinks ill end up with no rock left in my tank! I have tried to exslpain that there is not proven way to get rid off this stuff but there you go.

    Thanks K

Byropsis is some pretty nasty stuff. Luckily I have never had it, but if I were in your shoes and it was still a small outbreak I would take any rock out of the tank that has it and nuke it. That would be the only way to make sure it is all gone, then you will just have to hope and pray it's not hiding anywhere else in the tank.
Recipe I was taught for nuking (cleaning) Live Rock
    1. Soak rock in 50/50 Bleach and water solution for 3 days.
    2. Soak rock for next 3 days in RO water if possible but tap is ok
    3. Soak rock in RO/DI water and Baking soda for 3 days to neutralize the bleach. For a 30g trash can I use 4 lbs. of Baking soda.
    4. Let rock sit outside in sun for 2 weeks turning the rock to make sure all water is out of holes. If cold out side I have put in my garage with a fan on the rock...

Ok here is my thought on bryopsis. I had a huge out break in my tank. This is how I dealt with it.(1) First I cut light way back in tank. Kind of sad about this it is just a black box with no light. I run my actinics from 7 to 6, 11 hours next I run metal Halids from 11 to 4, 5 hours. (2)Next I cut food back. No more then fish can eat in 2or 3min.(3) Next I took and pulled out the rock that was covered with bryopsis and brush scrubed it in a bucket of water from tank. also pull any off of rocks that can't be removed(ones with mushrooms or polyps) Soon as you are done with this do a water change. (4) do water changes weekly.(5) I installed a phosban phosphate remover. (6) and this is the the big expence. I put a refugium on line and filled it with chato. Now the refugium uses up the nitrates and it is no longer able let it grow in display tank. The only problem is that now all the bryopsis has now moved to refugium. Which in my opinion is not that big of a problem. I has took about 2 months to rid my display tank of bryopsis. There is still a small amount in display tank but just a couple of spots. I think that in another couple of months I will gut refugium to remove the last traces of bryopsis. One last thing I also added 4 lettuce Nudibranchs. My tank is 90 gal. with200lbs of rock.

This is what I just finished doing to mine. I just started to cycle it again this week.
I already had a phosban reactor and fuge. Before I tore it down, it sat for about 2 months with a black trash bag over it and mag over 2000. It is nasty stuff.

That's pretty good advice, although it is important to note that not all bryopsis species reacts the same way to normal treatment of nuisance algae. My outbreak did not respond to anything, I did everything Mile High did, but it didn't work. I had relatively small patches all through my tank. I took what rock I could out and nuked it. The remaining patches, I covered with epoxy and let that sit for about 2 months. I then removed the epoxy, which can be difficult, and I've been bryopsis free for 3 months.
